Nato a Mosca nel 1972, Yuri Goloubev è un virtuoso del suo strumento. Dopo molti anni di brillante carriera in ambito prevalentemente classico, dove ha raggiunto i massimi livelli suonando con i più grandi artisti contemporanei e nelle più importanti sale da concerto del mondo, da alcuni anni si dedica con altrettanto successo alla sua più autentica vocazione, il jazz.
Si è diplomato in contrabbasso nel 1995 presso il Conservatorio Caikovskij di Mosca, dove ha studiato anche composizione. Nel 2002 è stato il più giovane contrabbassista russo ad aver ricevuto il prestigioso titolo di "The Honoured Artist of Russia".
Ha suonato con grandi jazzisti quali Paul Bollenback, Eddie Gomez, Miles Griffith, Shawnn Monteiro, Adam Nussbaum, Denise Perrier, Christoph Spendel e molti altri.
Si esibisce sui palcoscenici di importanti jazz festival come Porsche Jazz (Italia), Umbria Jazz (Italia), Iseo Jazz (Italia), Gallarate Jazz Festival (Italia), Loulé Jazz Festival (Portogallo), Boheme Jazz (Russia), St.Petersburg Jazz Spring (Russia), Saalfelden Jazz Festival (Austria), Jazz Carnival (Ucraine).
Dal dicembre del 2004 Yuri Goloubev vive in Italia, a Milano, dedicandosi interamente al jazz. In brevissimo tempo si è affermato sulla scena jazzistica italiana avviando collaborazioni stabili con musicisti come Enrico Pieranunzi, Franco Cerri, Glauco Venier, Claudio Fasoli, Giovanni Falzone, Guido Manusardi, Gianni Cazzola, Davide Boato, Antonio Zambrini e altri grandi jazzisti italiani. Collabora inoltre con importanti artisti internazionali come Klaus Gesing, Gwilym Simcock, Asaf Sirkis, Ron Horton, Mike Serin, Will Holshouser, Michael Rosen, Alejandra Martin.
Ha partecipato a più di 30 registrazioni e ha inciso 3 CD di proprie composizioni ("Rendering", 1996, "Toremar Island", 2001, "The Bridge", 2003).
Ha scritto numerosi brani jazzistici e da camera, come anche trascrizioni che sono state pubblicate in Russia, Germania e negli Stati Uniti. Ha inoltre tenuto master-classes negli Stati Uniti, in Gran Bretagna, Irlanda e Italia. Nel 2000 la nota rivista "Harper's Bazaar" gli ha dedicato un ritratto.
Dal 1992 al 2004 è stato Primo contrabbasso di una delle più celebri orchestre da camera del mondo, I Solisti di Mosca di Yuri Bashmet. In questo contesto ha collaborato con alcuni dei massimi musicisti contemporanei come Gidon Kremer, Sviatoslav Richter, Mstislav Rostropovich, Barbara Hendricks, James Galway, Lynn Harrell, Thomas Quasthoff, Vladimir Spivakov, Maxim Vengerov - solo per citarne alcuni. Si è esibito nelle più importanti sale da concerto del mondo - Carnegie Hall di New York, Suntory Hall di Tokyo, Concertgebouw di Amsterdam, Musikverein di Vienna, Salle Pleyel di Parigi, Royal Albert Hall di Londra, Palacio de Bellas Artes nel Messico, Sydney Opera House, Palais des Beaux Arts di Bruxelles, Accademia di Santa Cecilia a Roma, Megaron di Atene, Gewandhaus di Lipsia e in grandi festival come Bath Music Festival (Gran Bretagna), Omaggio a Roma (Italia), Casals Festival (Puerto Rico), Festival di Perth (Australia), Prestige de la Musique (Francia), Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival (Finlandia), Hong Kong Festival of the Arts.
Born in Moscow, Russia, in 1972. After many years of a splendid career in classical music, since his moving to Italy in december 2004 dedicates himself exclusively to performing and composing jazz that he has been playing and composing alongside with his classical activities for some years and considers as his true call. In his "adopted home", Italy, collaborates with such important figures of Italian and European jazz scene as Enrico Pieranunzi, Franco Cerri, Glauco Venier, Claudio Fasoli, Giovanni Falzone, Guido Manusardi, Gianni Cazzola, David Boato, Antonio Zambrini, Massimo Manzi and many others. At the same time peforms with some of the important international jazz artists as Klaus Gesing, Franco Ambrosetti, Gwilym Simcock, Asaf Sirkis, Ron Horton, Mike Serin, Will Holshouser, Michael Rosen, Alejandra Martin participating in such festivals like Umbria Jazz (Italy), Porsche Jazz (Italy), Iseo Jazz (Italy), Loulé Jazz Festival (Portugal), Boheme Jazz (Russia), St.Petersburg Jazz Spring (Russia), Saalfelden Jazz Festival (Austria), Jazz Carnival (Ukraine) - to name a few. While still living in Russia, performed in different concerts and festivals with such noted jazz masters as Paul Bollenback, Eddie Gomez, Miles Griffith, Shawnn Monteiro, Adam Nussbaum, Denise Perrier, Christoph Spendel and many others.
Receiving his Master's Degree in double bass as a soloist, chamber musician and teacher from the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory in 1995, where he also studied composition, in 2002 he became the youngest bass player ever in the history of both USSR and Russia to be awarded the prestigious title of the Honored Artist of Russia by President Putin.
From 1992 till 2004 has been the Principal Bassist with one of the world's most noted chamber orchestras - Moscow Soloists directed by Yuri Bashmet. Has also collaborated with such orchestras as l'Orchestra Filarmonica del Teatro alla Scala and l'Orchestra Filarmonica Toscanini.
Yuri Goloubev has written a number of jazz and chamber music works as well as transriptions and arrangements, some of them are published in Russia, Germany and United States and recorded over 30 albums, including 3 CDs as a leader and composer ("Rendering", 1996, "Toremar Island", 2001, "The Bridge", 2003). Gave diverse master classes in The United States, England, Ireland and Italy. In 2000 a well-known magazine "Harper's Bazaar" placed a feature article on Yuri Goloubev.
