The result is an album, varied, autobiographical, ironic, representative, elegant, refined. The experience: a quarter of a century, between live sessions in clubs on the canals of Milan (when Milan was a great Milan), countless hours of rehearsal rooms, concerts above the tables of the stages of renowned European festivals, both as side and as a front man, many hours dedicated to the study of harmonica, in its blues, jazz, folk and pop declinations. Marco Simoncelli’s aesthetics are not without references to a personal vision regarding “customs and society” evident above all in the triptych of social / political songs “Barcode Freedom”, “Green Pass”, “Joke on me”) in these modern and dystopian times. The expressive modalities are often autobiographical as in “I Miss you” and other passages. A very intense record, strong in inspiration, expressively powerful thanks to the leader’s uncommon skills as a harmonica player and composer. The realization is flawless, majestically supported by a choral spirit where we discover illustrious names of the Italian scene: Heggy Vezzano (Renga, Marrone, Zilli) Fabio Buonarota (Mario Biondi), Diego Corradin (Ramazzotti, Raf, Mannoia), Laura Fedele (Berte) , Stefano Berto (Utez, Paola Turci), Oscar Trabucchi (Rondo Veneziano) Livia Hagiu (Rondo Veneziano, Deep Purple)…. Small description piece by piece Except two, all the songs, words and music are written by Marco Simoncelli. Opening in step with the times, pandemic and covid united, here is Barcode Freedom, an ironic piece with an illustrious quote You Find Yourself In Times of Trouble Mother Mary… (from Let It Be, 1970) and Beatles harmonies. I Miss You sees Simoncelli talking to himself, a dialogue of him young and more mature but it is the manifesto of the record, the piece in which he found himself giving him confidence and the desire to move forward with an openness of hope for the future. Marco is on the chromatic harmonica (he plays almost like an accordion) as well as Green Pass (in rhyme green pass badass, a bastard green pass) is in New Orleans style with Fabio Bianchi’s bass tuba. Joke On Me with a reggae rhythm, with the choruses of Laura Fedele and Veronica Sbergia and Heggy Vezzano on guitars, is always ironic and mentions some disguised characters, there is something for all tastes, political and otherwise (Little Son is the general Francesco Paolo Son) but there is no shortage of health minister Roberto Speranza (Hope), Brunetta (Little Brownie), Prime Minister Mario Draghi (Dragon), Genoese virologist Matteo Bassetti (Doctor Dachshund) in a political triptych of songs (Joke On Me , Green Pass and Barcode Freedom). Bye Bye Love is one of two covers, composed by Boudleaux & Felice Bryant (husband and wife) originally released as a single by the Everly Brothers (RCA, March 1957), Ray Charles (1962), Simon & Garfunkel (1970), George Harrison ( 1974) and in a spectacular reggae version by David Lindley in 1981 on his album El Rayo-X (Asylum Records). Simoncelli’s version is quite different, almost southern-rock, to the Lynyrd Skynyrd sung here by Marco Simoncelli and the Turkish Korham Kodaman with the excellent Alberto Colombo on guitar and the twenty-year-old Lorenzo Simoncelli (Marco’s son) on bass. Overall is in 6/8 (six eighths) and in pure Motown style (late 60s) but at the same time a slow crooner with Stefano Berto on the piano, Marco Simoncelli always on the harmonica and Marco Michieletti on sax among others, Fabio Buonarota on trumpet and the phenomenal Diego Corradin on drums. Live! with a mixture of text in Italian and English, it is a heartfelt tribute to the homonymous motorcyclist Marco Simoncelli with 14-year-old Vittoria Simoncelli (Marco’s daughter) on vocals and Lorenzo Simoncelli (all in the family) always on bass. Green Flower Street written by Donald Fagen for the album The Nightfly (1982) is really Steeley Dan or Donald Fagen (from the continuous refrains in a jazz-pop-fusion that gives body to the syncopated, oblique and misleading trend that s ‘insinuates under the skin) with Davide Speranza in a harmonica solo, Marco Simoncelli (keyboards and harmonica), Heggy Vezzano on guitars and Oscar Trabucchi on drums. Desert has decidedly Bedouin / Arab sounds and is a dialogue of a Syrian and God, with the violin of the Romanian Livia Hagiu and the choirs of Laura Fedele. In The Middle Of The Night it is instead disco (disco-music from the 80s) with Marco addressing his son. Simoncelli solo voice and Laura Fedele and Veronica Sbergia (and what a couple!) In all the songs the work of Biagio Sturiale is superlative, arrangements, production, sequence and programming are by him. It ends with My Babe Is My Life, a swing-blues piece with the sax of Mario Michieletti, Lorenzo Simoncelli on double bass and Alberto Colombo on guitars.

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

[15,3677,3673,3678,3682,3674,3676,3169,3684,3686,2941,3672,3681,3675,3680,3670,3671,3669,3679,3683,3685
3688,3687,3569
