Alessio Menconi

Alessio Menconi (Genova, 8 gennaio 1970) è uno dei più apprezzati e importanti chitarristi jazz italiani sulla scena internazionale, oltre che un rinomato docente di musica. Considerato un vero e proprio prodigio della chitarra, ha sviluppato una carriera ultratrentennale che lo ha portato a suonare in oltre 40 paesi nel mondo.

Gli Esordi e la Formazione
Si avvicina alla musica a soli 8 anni studiando la batteria, per poi abbandonarla due anni dopo e dedicarsi completamente alla chitarra da autodidatta. Dimostra fin da subito un talento fuori dal comune: inizia la sua attività professionistica a soli 16 anni, muovendo i primi passi nell’ambito del blues per poi abbracciare definitivamente il jazz negli anni ’90.
La consacrazione nazionale arriva all’inizio degli anni Novanta attraverso importanti riconoscimenti:
    • Nel 1992 riceve il premio “AICS JAZZ” al “Gran Prix du Jazz”.
    • Nel 1993 vince il prestigioso Premio “Eddie Lang” come Miglior giovane chitarrista jazz italiano.

Collaborazioni Internazionali e Pop
Grazie al suo stile personale e a una solida preparazione tecnica, viene notato dai grandi nomi del panorama musicale. Ha registrato e condiviso il palco con leggende mondiali del jazz e della batteria, tra cui Billy Cobham (con cui ha intrapreso lunghi tour mondiali), Jimmy Cobb, Jeff Berlin, Danny Gottlieb ed Enrico Rava. Nel 2000 è stato inoltre l’unico chitarrista italiano selezionato dall’Orchestre National de Jazz di Parigi. [1, 2, 3, 4]
Menconi è molto attivo anche nella musica pop d’autore, avendo collaborato stabilmente per anni con Paolo Conte (con cui ha registrato 4 album) e suonato al fianco di artisti come Anna Oxa, Gianni Morandi e Tullio De Piscopo. [1, 2]

    • Omaggi alla tradizione: cura progetti speciali dedicati a grandi del passato, come l’ensemble A Big Band for Wes, incentrato sulle musiche di Wes Montgomery.

Dal punto di vista della strumentazione, predilige le chitarre archtop (tra cui modelli vintage Gibson) e dal 2024 la liuteria inglese Fibonacci ha realizzato un modello signature a suo nome.
Didattica
Accanto alla sua attività concertistica, Menconi è una figura centrale nella formazione musicale in Italia. È docente di ruolo di chitarra jazz presso il Conservatorio Niccolò Paganini di Genova, dopo aver insegnato in passato nei conservatori di Cuneo, La Spezia e Livorno.
Ha inoltre fondato l’AMG – Alessio Menconi Guitar Institute, una delle principali scuole online di chitarra jazz in Italia che offre percorsi didattici e video-corsi specializzati.

    Un profondo e originale omaggio all’universo musicale di Miles Davis. Menconi reinterpreta i capolavori del trombettista destrutturandoli e riarrangiandoli per la chitarra.

Early Years and Background
He took his first steps in music at just 8 years old by studying the drums, only to leave them two years later to fully dedicate himself to the guitar as a self-taught musician. He showed extraordinary talent from the very beginning, launching his professional career at the age of 16 in the blues scene before definitively embracing jazz in the 1990s.
National recognition arrived in the early 1990s through major awards:
    • In 1992, he received the “AICS JAZZ” award at the “Gran Prix du Jazz”.
    • In 1993, he won the prestigious “Eddie Lang” Award as the Best Young Italian Jazz Guitarist.

International Collaborations and Pop Music
Thanks to his unique style and solid technical foundation, he quickly caught the attention of major names in the music industry.
