Italy is a country full of hidden secrets. One of these is certainly Mario Montella! Never a household name on the scene, yet so accomplished and mature in composition and powerful in expression.
“Elsewhere” is the debut album by the Mario Montella Trio, a project that moves effortlessly within the realm of contemporary jazz, combining refined songwriting, lyricism, and improvisational freedom. The title evokes an imaginary and sonic “elsewhere”: an interior space made of silences, pauses, and profound dialogues between the musicians.
Mario Montella’s piano leads with a personal touch and compositional vision, supported by Giuseppe D’Alessandro’s careful and nuanced drumming and Gianfranco Coppola’s warm and present double bass. The trio builds a shared language, in which each song represents a stage in an emotional and narrative journey.
Carefully recorded at Artesuono by Stefano Amerio, “Elsewhere” presents itself as a mature, elegant and coherent work, ideal for an audience attentive to sound quality and expressive depth.
