Gifted with a portentous voice, very recognizable, a modern phrasing and a great expressive charge, he presents this original project with the collaboration of Antonio Zambrini, both as a pianist and as a composer. Antonio’s music is now more and more often reinterpreted by many musicians, not only national, as a demonstration of an uncommon artistic vein which is now recognized even beyond the borders. The quartet is completed here by a very high profile rhythmic section, made up of historical collaborators of Horton, including drummer Tony Moreno and double bass player Ben Allison, who has emerged strongly worldwide in recent times and founder of the now famous Jazz Composers Collective, based in New York, and ranked at the top several times in the special Downbeat charts as an emerging artist and double bass player. A record of great involvement, stylistically fresh and very modern, in a musical context free from rigid or pre-established schemes. Cultured but not academic jazz, with a strong interplay. The disc has a precise inspiration which is described extensively in the liner notes and which we summarize briefly here: “The compositions and the intention of the musicians is thus to evoke that idea of that idea of mechanicality, of a world that pushes towards compulsiveness (the gadget world)…
