UN DOCUMENTO, OGGI UN OGGETTO DA COLLEZIONE

Ci sono dischi che vengono pubblicati. E ci sono dischi che, con il passare degli anni, si trasformano in documenti. Trio M/E/D appartiene a questa seconda categoria. Registrato dal vivo il 13 luglio 2014 al Porto Antico di Genova, durante il Gezmataz Genoa Jazz Festival, questo incontro tra Rita Marcotulli, Palle Danielsson e Peter Erskine ha raccolto negli anni un consenso straordinario da parte del pubblico e della critica, fino a diventare uno dei lavori più rappresentativi della loro collaborazione. Oggi, a distanza di dodici anni dalla registrazione, quell’esperienza torna finalmente nel formato che meglio di ogni altro sa custodire la materia sonora: il vinile.

Non una semplice ristampa, ma una vera Limited Edition 180 grammi, realizzata con una cura quasi maniacale per ogni fase della produzione.

Il progetto è stato seguito personalmente da Mario Caccia anche nella delicata fase del cutting, dalla realizzazione della lacca fino all’ascolto dei test pressing direttamente sul luogo di produzione, prima della stampa definitiva. Un processo volutamente analogico e artigianale, nel quale l’ascolto e il controllo diretto del risultato hanno avuto un ruolo determinante. La tiratura è limitata, numerata e siglata personalmente dal patron di Abeat Records. Ogni copia diventa così non soltanto un supporto musicale, ma un esemplare appartenente a una precisa tiratura, con una propria identità e un proprio valore collezionistico.

TRE GRANDI NOMI. UN SOLO SUONO. Al centro del progetto ci sono tre musicisti di statura internazionale.

Peter Erskine, batterista leggendario e protagonista di alcune delle pagine più importanti della musica contemporanea, dagli Weather Report alle innumerevoli collaborazioni che hanno segnato la storia del jazz moderno, completa il trio con una concezione ritmica estremamente raffinata e riconoscibile.

Rita Marcotulli, pianista tra le più originali e riconoscibili del jazz italiano, porta nel trio una sensibilità profondamente mediterranea, una straordinaria ricchezza melodica e un linguaggio personale maturato attraverso una lunga esperienza internazionale.

Palle Danielsson, al quale è dedicata questa realizzazione, figura fondamentale del contrabbasso europeo, appartiene alla storia del jazz internazionale e ha costruito nel corso di decenni un linguaggio inconfondibile, fatto di profondità, eleganza e ascolto.

Tre personalità fortissime, tre mondi musicali differenti, una lunga storia di collaborazione e soprattutto un’intesa che permette alla musica di respirare.

Le quattro composizioni presenti nell’edizione in vinile — Mars, Autumn Rose, This Is Not e For Jupiter — sono un concentrato della poetica del trio: composizione, improvvisazione, spazio, dinamica e un interplay di rara intensità. La registrazione dal vivo restituisce tutta la tensione dell’incontro, senza sovrastrutture e senza artifici. Il pianoforte, il contrabbasso e la batteria si cercano, si inseguono e si lasciano spazio, creando una musica nella quale ogni dettaglio acquista peso. E proprio questo rende particolarmente significativo il passaggio al vinile.

La fisicità del supporto incontra la fisicità della musica. Il grande formato, i 180 grammi, la cura del cutting, la lacca, i test pressing, la tiratura limitata e la numerazione non sono semplici dettagli tecnici: sono parte della storia di questa edizione. Trio M/E/D torna quindi oggi in una forma nuova, ma con la stessa energia del concerto di Genova del 2014.

There are records that are released. And then there are records that, over the years, evolve into documents.

Trio M/E/D belongs to the latter category.

Recorded live on July 13, 2014, at Porto Antico in Genoa, during the Gezmataz Genoa Jazz Festival, this encounter between Rita Marcotulli, Palle Danielsson and Peter Erskine has received extraordinary recognition from audiences and critics over the years, becoming one of the most representative recordings of their collaboration.

Today, twelve years after the original recording, this experience finally returns in the format that, more than any other, is capable of preserving the physical essence of sound: vinyl.

Not simply a reissue, but a true 180-gram Limited Edition, produced with an almost obsessive attention to every stage of the process.

The project was personally overseen by Mario Caccia, including the delicate cutting stage, from the creation of the lacquer to the listening and evaluation of the test pressings directly at the pressing plant, before the final production run.

A deliberately analogue, hands-on process, in which listening and direct control of the final result played a decisive role.

The edition is limited, numbered and personally signed by the founder of ABeat Records.

Each copy is therefore not merely a music carrier, but an individual example from a defined edition, with its own identity and its own collectible value.

At the heart of the project are three musicians of truly international stature.

Peter Erskine, legendary drummer and a central figure in some of the most important chapters of contemporary music, from Weather Report to the countless collaborations that have helped shape the history of modern jazz, completes the trio with an extraordinarily refined and instantly recognizable rhythmic approach.

Rita Marcotulli, one of the most original and distinctive pianists in Italian jazz, brings to the trio a deeply Mediterranean sensibility, extraordinary melodic richness and a highly personal language developed through decades of international experience.

Palle Danielsson, to whom this edition is dedicated, is a seminal figure in European double bass and an integral part of the history of international jazz. Over the course of decades, he has developed an unmistakable language defined by depth, elegance and an extraordinary sense of listening.

Three powerful personalities. Three different musical worlds. A long history of collaboration — and, above all, an understanding that allows the music to breathe.

The four compositions featured on the vinyl edition — Mars, Autumn Rose, This Is Not and For Jupiter — capture the essence of the trio’s musical vision: composition, improvisation, space, dynamics and interplay of rare intensity.

The live recording preserves the full tension of the encounter, without embellishment or artifice. Piano, double bass and drums search for one another, respond to one another and leave room for one another, creating music in which every detail carries weight.
