Non-Standard Approach nasce da un’idea originale di Yuri Goloubev: avvicinarsi ad alcuni celebri standard da prospettive inedite, reinterpretandoli attraverso nuove angolazioni musicali e, in alcuni casi, trasformandone persino i titoli.

Ne scaturisce un progetto creativo e sorprendente, capace non soltanto di rivisitare i brani originali, ma anche di arricchirli, valorizzandone alcuni tratti distintivi, portando in primo piano aspetti talvolta appena accennati e aprendo la strada a nuove suggestioni ed emozioni inaspettate. Variazioni ritmiche e melodiche, riarmonizzazioni inconsuete e intuizioni interpretative danno vita a una rilettura personale e mai scontata di repertori conosciuti.

Un lavoro di grande inventiva, realizzato con la straordinaria sensibilità artistica e musicale di Yuri Goloubev, contrabbassista russo tra i più richiesti della scena jazz europea, affiancato da partner di assoluto rilievo: il giovane e già affermato pianista italiano Simone Locarni e il celebrato batterista scozzese Andrew Bain. Il progetto si arricchisce inoltre della presenza, in tre brani, del chitarrista norvegese Hans Mathisen.

Non-Standard Approach originated from an original concept by Yuri Goloubev: to approach some of the most celebrated jazz standards from entirely new perspectives, reinterpreting them through fresh musical angles and, in some cases, even transforming their titles.

The result is a creative and surprising project that not only revisits the original compositions but also enriches them, highlighting their distinctive features, bringing to the forefront elements that may have previously remained understated, and opening the door to new musical insights and unexpected emotions. Rhythmic and melodic variations, unconventional reharmonisations, and imaginative interpretative ideas give rise to a personal and never predictable reimagining of familiar repertoire.

This highly inventive work is brought to life through the extraordinary artistic and musical sensitivity of Yuri Goloubev, one of the most sought-after Russian double bassists on the European jazz scene, joined by two outstanding musicians: the young and already acclaimed Italian pianist Simone Locarni and the celebrated Scottish drummer Andrew Bain. The project is further enriched by the contribution of Norwegian guitarist Hans Mathisen, who appears on three tracks.
