A vent’anni dalla morte, Monk rivive grazie alla Lydian Sound Orchestra di Riccardo Brazzale, con i suoi magnifici solisti: dalle ance di Tonolo, Bonisolo ed Emili, agli ottoni di Gregory, Rossi e Duso alla ritmica di Calgaro, Birro, Abrams e Beggio. E con Monk rivive uno storico concerto, quello celeberrimo alla Town Hall di New York durante il quale, il 28 febbraio 1959, furono eseguite pagine da tempo entrate nella storia del jazz: Thelonious, Friday the 13th, Monk’s Mood, Little Rootie Tootie, Off Minor, Crepuscule with Nellie.
Ma non certo di mera filologia si tratta, perché qui la tradizione si intreccia all’avanguardia e lo swing è quello del XXI secolo. Come scrive Ira Gitler nelle liner notes e, soprattutto, come sarebbe piaciuto a Monk: un disco imperdibile.
The great italian big band called Lydian Sound Orchestra arranged and conducted by Riccardo Brazzale, recorded a new cd dedicated to the famous concert by Thelonius Monk at the Town Hall (New York, February 28, 1958). During that marvellous concert the Monk’s orchestra played some takes that became historic jazz pages: Thelonious, Friday the 13th, Monk’s Mood, Little Rootie Tootie, Off Minor, Crepuscule with Nellie.
In the Lydian Sound Orchestra are playng some of the most famous italian and international jazz musicians: Tonolo, Bonisolo ,Emili, Gregory, Rossi, Duso, Calgaro, Birro, Abrams and Beggio. This album mixes tradition and vanguard jazz , but the swing belongs to the XXI century.
