Marco Di Battista ha di frequente messo al centro dei suoi interessi musicali la logica della melodica, un codice espressivo adoperato, come una specie di grimaldello, per favorire comunicazione ed empatia tra i musicisti scelti come interpreti della sua visione musicale. Un artificio per intrecciare, in maniera remunerativa, la sintesi tra riferimenti ed intenzioni. Una chiave universale che ritroviamo negli album più scarni ed essenziali fino ad arrivare a quelli più articolati con formazioni allargate.

In questo nuovo lavoro, la melodia rappresenta il punto dove far convergere le tradizioni del jazz, le reminiscenze del prog e certi riflessi del jazz elettrico. È anche il binario che guida il confronto tra maturità ed entusiasmo, in un dialogo tra generazioni e approcci musicali differenti. Una conversazione animata da elementi che si sono imposti in maniera sempre più basilare nello sviluppo musicale del pianista. La predisposizione all’ascolto reciproco, la costruzione corale evocata dalla cantabilità, le scelte operate passaggio dopo passaggio, sempre consequenziali e ben calibrate. Una trama tracciata dalle linee melodiche, aperta al contributo dei vari partecipanti, arricchita dalle soluzioni trovate di volta in volta dai solisti, attenta alla libertà espressiva dell’improvvisazione e delle combinazioni che scaturiscono man mano che la musica prende corpo. Un filo delicato e, allo stesso tempo, resistente, pensato per rendere fluide e discorsive soluzioni più complicate dal punto di vista ritmico o armonico e per dare spazio tanto alle idee più razionali del compositore quanto alle espressioni più istintive e istantanee del musicista.

Marco Di Battista has frequently placed the logic of melodica at the center of his musical interests, an expressive code used, like a sort of lock pick, to foster communication and empathy among the musicians chosen as interpreters of his musical vision. A trick to weave, in a profitable way, the synthesis between references and intentions. A universal key that we find in the leanest and most essential albums up to the more articulated ones with enlarged formations.

In this new work, the melody represents the point where to bring together the traditions of jazz, the reminiscences of prog and certain reflections of electric jazz. It is also the binary that guides the comparison between maturity and enthusiasm, in a dialogue between different generations and musical approaches. A conversation animated by elements that have imposed themselves in an increasingly basic way in the musical development of the pianist. The predisposition to mutual listening, the choral construction evoked by the cantabile, the choices made step by step, always consequential and well calibrated. A plot traced by the melodic lines, open to the contribution of the various participants, enriched by the solutions found from time to time by the soloists, attentive to the expressive freedom of improvisation and of the combinations that arise as the music takes shape. A delicate and, at the same time, resistant thread, designed to make more complicated solutions from a rhythmic or harmonic point of view fluid and discursive and to give space both to the more rational ideas of the composer and to the more instinctive and instantaneous expressions of the musician.
